RAGA is happy to forward an invitation from Reason TV announcing the February 26 preview of "Return to the GULAG," a documentary film about my friend and RAGA associate Jon Utley.
Jon Utley has been a friend of mine for many years. I knew that he was a staunch anti-Communist, conservative republican, admirer of Ronald Reagan, and free-marketer. I knew that he had "some Russian background” and that he was delighted at the fall of Communism. However, I also knew that he was very unhappy about the turn U.S. policy toward Russia had taken after 1991, with the expansion of NATO, bombing of Yugoslavia, the war in Iraq and all other efforts to “spread democracy and free-market” by guile and force. The film is about the tragic death of his father, Arkady Berdichevsky, in the jaws of the GULAG. It’s based on documents from FSB archives that I managed to obtain on Jon’s behalf in 2004.
