In last issues of RAGA Newsletter we focused on Charles Bausman's a campaign on Kickstarter for the benefit of non-profit news and commentary site Russia Insider aimed at a betterment of US-Russia relations. At the end of March, we also announced US-Russia Forum in Washington and New York .
In this RAGA Antidote (against Western propaganda) issue 15, we are happy to forward an announcement, Bausman's in English, and EdLozansky's in Russian, of a joint Russian-American event in Moscow to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Victory over Germany.
As many of you live neither in Moscow nor Washington, you can skip this event, and read further down a Russian report about the Washington Forum, as well as the latest comments by Professor Nicolai Petro, Katrina vanden Heuvel, Sharon Tenison and Ron Paul. Politics aside, please view the pictures taken by Professor William Brumfield in my city of Perm, the Gateway to Siberia. I was honored to serve last September as his guide in my native city, even though Bill's Russian is superb.

About US-Russia Washington Forum
http://www.vesti.ru/doc.html?id=2463153
Professor Nicolai Petro <<I hope that this essay will be of interest to you.

<<Not long ago, former Ukrainian president Viktor Yushchenko gave a wide ranging interview in which he offered the man who now sits in that seat some advice. President Petro Poroshenko must understand, the ex-leader said, that half the country is against the imposition of the Ukrainian language, opposes the idea of a single national church, and does not want to join any military alliance. With a candor that only a former politician can afford, Yushchenkoacknowledged that Ukrainians live in two distinct countries. There are parts of Ukraine today where, he said, “our language practically does not exist, our memory is nonexistent, our church is absent, our culture is absent.”>>
Katrina vanden Heuvel: Mix of American Triumphalism and Paranoia Led to US Foreign Policy Disaster in Ukraine
http://russia-insider.com/en/2015/03/25/4974
The key points of Vanden Heuvel's captivating speech:
- These are tough times for those in the US who challenge the orthodox conventional narrative on the Ukraine conflict.
- Even "US progressives" who are against an increase in the US military budget, which will inevitably happen in a new Cold War, are content with Washington's policy.
- McCarthyism is still in the DNA of America's media.
- If you question the ruling narrative your patriotism and sanity will be questioned. You will be marginalized and vilified.
- Policing the world does not make the US more secure.
- Most liberals and progressives sign on to the Clinton project of NATO expansion.
- American understanding of diplomacy is "my way or the highway". It allows no room for compromise.
- Liberal interventionists like "hawk" Hillary Clinton hijacked progressivism.
- US media blindly accept the official US government version of events in Ukraine, and it is complicit in creating the false narrative that may lead the US toward war.
- Liberal hawks and neocons share strong residual anti-Russian Cold War sentiments.
- "Putin demonization" is Obama's "Russia policy".

Well, before you see Brumfield's pictures and text about Perm, you need to know that it was here, on June 12, 1918, that the Romanov dynasty effectively ended. This happened FIVE WEEKS ahead of the Ipatiev House massacre of former Tsar Nickolas II and his family in Yekaterinburg on July 17, 1918. After all, Nicholas abdicated in favor of his younger brother Michael (Mikhail) who stipulated in his Manifesto that the fate of monarchy ought to be decided by the Constituent Assembly elected by universal ballot.
Having suffered a resounding defeat in the election, the Bolsheviks dissolved the Assembly by force and resorted to civil war. As Mikhail represented a democratic alternative to the Bolshevik usurpation of power, they had secretly assassinated him and his secretary Johnson (British by birth) in the outskirts of Perm, the first of all the Romanovs. Read Donald Crawford superb The Last Tsar: Emperor Michael II.
