In Memory of Jude Wanniski (1936 - 2005)

It's time to bow our heads before a wise man and great American, the recently deceased Jude Wanniski.

I was introduced to Jude in conjunction with his criticism of the World Bank and U.S. Government for meddling in Russian reforms after the fall of Communism. Like myself, Jude was convinced that we were giving wrong-headed advice to the reformers . Jude was an anti-Communist, but he was also a friend of Russia. He understood that Russia was more of a victim of Communism than its protagonist. He did not want to see the demise of Russia as a great nation. Jude and I had exchanged a number of emails when he was planning his next trip to Russia. It's then that I read and learned to appreciate his book, _The Way the World Works_. To my surprise, I discovered that Jude had a much more positive view of Karl Marx than what one would expect from the promoter of supply-side economics. With great interests, I read several of his Supply Side University (Wanniski.com and Polyconomics.com) lectures.

Not always agreeing with Jude, I will remember him for:

* his outstanding contribution to the rivival of free-market principals in the U.S.A. under President Ronald Reagan;
* his courage in criticizing the imperialist penchant of U.S. foreign policy after the collapse of Communism;
* his fairness in dealing with other nations, including and especially Russia;
* the wisdom of keeping his mind open as to the relativity and even irrelevance of old political and ideological divisions(Left, Right, Liberal, Conservative, Republican and Democrat) within a larger scheme of globalizing processes

Above all, I will remember Jude as a genuine American patriot and conservative who remained true to his convictions in spite of the ascent of neoconservative influence over U.S. foreign policy.
